The Child & Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS) is a rating scale, which assesses a youth’s degree of impairment in day-to-day functioning due to emotional, behavioral, psychological, psychiatric, or substance use problems.
Primary

Tracking clinical outcome for individual clients
Assigning
cases to appropriate levels of care
Generating
a strengths-based treatment plan
Active
case management, using ongoing outcome information
Communicating
with caregivers and others about the youth’s needs
Maintaining
clinical documentation which can withstand audits
Maintaining
a database for administrative and clinical use
Evaluating
program efficacy

| Rater | A staff member/professional who is well-informed about the child and is a reliable rater on the CAFAS. |
| Time | About 10 minutes to rate a youth |
| Administration | The CAFAS is not "administered." A trained rater chooses from a list of behavioral descriptions. |
| Age of the Youth | School-age (i.e., 6 to 17 years old). The PECFAS is for younger youth. |
| Source of Information | Any source or format can be used (e.g., intake interview) |
| Training | Self-training and group training materials are available and are used to ensure reliable rating. |
